oh man, you just unlocked ancient memories of recording songs from the radio onto cassette tapes. the thrill when you could record an entire song without the DJ's intro/outro or station bumper music 😙🤌

Reading this post back-to-back with your last post has given me all the good cozy our-little-lives-are-beautiful feels. Love your writing and thoughts, James! I have a Thelonius Monk album in my car's CD player which is super perfect filler when I don't want to fiddle with my phone and whatever is on the radio sucks but I still want to feel like I'm listening to NPR.

I LOVE this and thank you for reminding me of how much I loved the radio growing up. My siblings and I would call in to our favorite station to request songs and win contests so often that several of the DJs knew our names/voices (phone number?). One of my most cherished memories is my brother calling in to dedicate a song to me on my birthday (Heaven, by DJ Sammy).

My current apartment complex requires me to have a cable package and it is SO nice to not have to pick something to watch. Being able to truly just throw whatever on is the best. You have totally convinced me to buy a home radio.

Here in Ireland we have a national public radio service (RTÉ) with 4 stations. My radio in the kitchen died last year, so now I listen using my smartphone. I usually have it on around the house or when driving, usually to the main (talk/news/light entertainment/arts/music) channel. I switch channel when sports come on! I also like hearing new music: Louise Duffy has a 1 hour show 12-1 pm Monday to Friday with interesting choices.
